This Day in Top 40 History: September 3

September 3 is a significant date in music history for several reasons. In 2021, rising star Tate McRae released a remix of her song “that way,” featuring Jeremy Zucker. This slow, lo-fi track became a duet and found moderate success. However, it was McRae’s 2023 album, *Think Later*, that marked her breakthrough.

Over the years, September 3 has seen major chart milestones. In 2006, Justin Timberlake and Timbaland topped the U.K. charts with “SexyBack.” The song became a global hit, winning a GRAMMY for Best Dance Recording and holding the title of the longest-running single on the Billboard Hot 100 that year. In 2021, Lady Gaga released *Dawn of Chromatica*, a remix album featuring collaborations with new artists, which hit No. 1 on the US Top Dance Albums chart.

This date has also witnessed important cultural moments. In 1968, Ringo Starr rejoined The Beatles after a two-week break, and the band continued working on *The White Album*. In 2009, friends and family gathered to honor Michael Jackson at his funeral, attended by over 200 guests, including Elizabeth Taylor and Macaulay Culkin.

Live performances on September 3 have showcased the power of music. In 2002, The Rolling Stones kicked off their 40th anniversary Licks tour in Boston, performing over 100 shows for about 2.5 million fans. In 2022, the Foo Fighters held a tribute concert for the late Taylor Hawkins, featuring artists like Queen, Kesha, and Paul McCartney.

These events highlight the rich history of music and its impact on culture.
