Blondie formed in the mid-’70s in New York and quickly became a staple at CBGB, sharing the stage with iconic punk bands like the Ramones and Talking Heads. Led by vocalist Debbie Harry and guitarist Chris Stein, the band continues to be active in the music scene. Blondie is known for breaking musical boundaries, mixing punk, rock, pop, reggae, and even early hip-hop.
On Friday, October 31, Blondie released a special reissue of their 1999 album. While they are still putting out new music, Harry and Stein recently discussed the band’s uncertain future.
Debbie Harry has previously expressed doubts about performing with Blondie again. She mentioned, “Well, it was Chris, Clem, and myself who were the only original members doing live shows. We just lost Clem, and Chris isn’t playing anymore… but maybe that could change.” She added that she feels uncomfortable performing under the Blondie name without her original bandmates. “It doesn’t make sense to me,” she said.
Blondie is also planning to release a new album, which could potentially be their last. Stein has been facing health issues and is unsure about making more albums, but he hopes to return to music someday. Harry shares similar feelings about new music and live shows, suggesting that future performances might be under a different name, like “Blondie Presents.”
Fans will have to stay tuned to see what happens next for this legendary band!
