Glen Matlock announces digital release of ‘I Was a Teenage Sex Pistol’ doc in the US

Glen Matlock, the founding bassist of the Sex Pistols, has announced the U.S. digital release of his documentary, *I Was a Teenage Sex Pistol*. The film will be available for rent and purchase on digital platforms starting May 26, with preorders opening on May 12.

In a statement, Matlock shared, “It tells the tale of my contribution to the band, which I think without it the group wouldn’t have had the success it had. For anybody interested in the birth of British punk and its effect on the wider music scene, I’d suggest it’s essential viewing – but then I would say that!”

The documentary features interviews with Matlock, as well as fellow Pistols Steve Jones and Paul Cook. It also includes insights from notable figures like Debbie Harry, Chris Stein, the late Clem Burke of Blondie, Billy Idol, and the late MC5 guitarist Wayne Kramer.

Matlock co-founded the Sex Pistols with Jones, Cook, and vocalist John “Johnny Rotten” Lydon. He co-wrote most of the songs on their iconic 1977 album, *Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols*. However, he left the band during the recording process and was replaced by Sid Vicious, who passed away in 1979.

After several reunions over the years, the Sex Pistols reunited in 2024 with Matlock, Jones, and Cook, along with vocalist Frank Carter stepping in for Lydon.
