SEPTA recently marked the 41st anniversary of its Airport Line, which opened on April 28, 1985. This line is unique because it’s the only SEPTA Regional Rail line not taken over from another railroad. It connects directly to the terminals at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL), making it one of the few U.S. airports with this convenient service.
The Airport Line is a game-changer for airport workers, flight crews, and travelers who can’t drive to the airport. It helps meet the staffing needs of PHL. The line runs every 30 minutes from 5 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week, and stops at all major airport terminals. The high-level platforms are ADA-accessible, making it easy for passengers to get on and off with their luggage.
In addition to connecting to every Regional Rail line, the Airport Line links to several SEPTA bus routes and the L, B, T1, T2, T3, T4, and T5 lines. SEPTA highlighted that the Airport Line is crucial for Philadelphia, helping to draw major events like conferences, sports games, and international gatherings. Notable events include Pope Francis’ visit in 2015, the FIFA World Cup, and the MLB All-Star Game in 2026, with the possibility of the DNC in 2028.
So, whether you’re heading to a concert or catching a flight, the Airport Line makes getting to PHL easier than ever!
