May 26 is an important date in Top 40 music history. It has seen record-breaking hits, iconic performances, and major changes in the music industry.

Several key moments have happened on this day. In 1970, George Harrison started recording his triple album, *All Things Must Pass*, at Abbey Road Studios. This was his first solo project after the Beatles split. In 1973, the Beatles’ *1967-1970* album hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200, showing their lasting popularity. Fast forward to 1984, Deniece Williams’ song from *Footloose* topped the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks.

In 1990, history was made when female artists took the top five spots on the Billboard Hot 100. Madonna led the pack, followed by Heart, Sinéad O’Connor, Wilson Phillips, and Janet Jackson. In 1997, *NSYNC released their self-titled debut album, which showcased their strong vocals and unique blend of hip-hop, pop, and R&B. This album peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and produced a Top 20 hit.

Eminem’s fourth album, *The Eminem Show*, came out in 2000 and quickly climbed to the top of the charts. It featured hits like “Without Me” and “Cleanin’ Out My Closet.” In 2012, Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know” spent its eighth week at No. 1. Sam Smith released their debut album, *In the Lonely Hour*, in 2014, which produced multiple hits. Finally, in 2018, Childish Gambino’s “This Is America” held the No. 1 spot for a second week, proving its cultural impact.

May 26 is a day that truly celebrates the evolution of popular music.
