Breakthrough hits and milestones
1966: The Beatles made their long-awaited live debut in Japan at the Nippon Budōkan in Tokyo. The venue choice stirred local controversy because it’s traditionally a martial arts arena.
1973: George Harrison hit No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 with “Give Me Love, Give Me Peace on Earth,” replacing Paul McCartney’s “My Love.”
1980: Billy Joel’s Glass Houses stayed at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 during its 16th week on the chart.
1984: Huey Lewis and the News topped the US Billboard 200 with Sports. The album spawned four Top 10 hits and went 7x Platinum in the US.
1985: Phil Collins’ No Jacket Required reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and spent seven weeks at the top.
1985: Rock dominated the Hot 100 with Phil Collins’ “Sussudio” and Duran Duran’s “A View To A Kill” holding the top two spots.

Notable recordings and performances
1974: The Grateful Dead played the Springfield Civic Center in Massachusetts. The set included “Don’t Ease Me In,” “Black-Throated Wind,” and “Peggy-O.”
1986: Steve Winwood released Back in the High Life. It went triple platinum in the US.
1999: Eric Clapton hosted a Crossroads Centre benefit concert in Antigua. The show was filmed and released on DVD to raise funds for the foundation.
