Motörhead dropped an animated lyric video for “Built For Speed,” the second single from Cameron Webb’s new remix of the 1986 album Orgasmatron. The 40th anniversary edition lands Nov. 6 through BMG.
Fans can pick up the edition as a deluxe 3LP bookpack or a 2CD set. Both come with the remastered original mix, the Cameron Webb remix, studio rehearsals and outtakes from 1985, and the full 1986 BBC Radio 1 Friday Rock Show session. The studio recordings were remastered and cut at half speed from the original tapes. A 1LP pressing on transparent violet vinyl carries the original studio album alone.
Orgasmatron came out in 1986 with Lemmy Kilmister, Phil Campbell, Würzel, and Pete Gill in the band. Bill Laswell produced it. “Orgasmatron,” “Deaf Forever,” and “Built For Speed” soon became staples of the band’s live shows.
“My brother introduced me to ‘Orgasmatron’ when I was 14 years old,” Webb said, according to Antimusic. “I heard the song and thought, ‘Is this even music?’ It was like the devil coming through my cassette tape. And I loved it.”
Webb wanted to honor the work of Laswell and engineer Jason Corsaro. “I love the fact that the original is wild and a little messy,” he said. “I wanted to be respectful to what Jason Corsaro and Bill Laswell created, rather than simply trying to make it sound like a modern heavy metal record.”
He also pictured Lemmy Kilmister and Phil Campbell sitting next to him, and asked himself what they might want. “The aim was never to replace the original, but to reveal more of what was inside it,” he said.
The deluxe 3LP and 2CD editions hold the same nine album songs on the master and the remix: “Deaf Forever,” “Nothing Up My Sleeve,” “Ain’t My Crime,” “Claw,” “Mean Machine,” “Built For Speed,” “Ridin’ With The Driver,” “Doctor Rock,” and “Orgasmatron.” The BBC session adds “Killed By Death,” “Orgasmatron,” “Doctor Rock,” “Deaf Forever,” and a spoken word version of “Orgasmatron.”
