Foo Fighters started their Australian Take Cover tour on Thursday, Nov. 5, at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane. The show landed just days after Dave Grohl said he broke down in tears after he played “Highway to Hell” with AC/DC on Oct. 2 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Full Flower Moon Band and Mini Skirt open the Brisbane show. The November run moves on to Townsville, Sydney, Newcastle, Melbourne, and Adelaide. Melbourne gets a bonus night at Crown Live.
Grohl, 57, talked about that night in an interview. After Foo Fighters’ opening set, he returned to the stage during AC/DC’s headlining performance, playing guitar and singing backing vocals on “Highway to Hell.”
“It was so crazy because my wife was on the side of the stage as we played ‘Highway to Hell,'” Grohl said. “I walked off stage, and I broke down in tears, sobbing like a baby. I was sobbing, like wailing, and I couldn’t believe it. I was, like, ‘That is one of the most full-circle moments of my entire life,’ and I will never forget it.”
Grohl also called the AC/DC stage “the loudest stage I have ever stood on in my entire life.” He added, “More than Motörhead, more than any other band. AC/DC is the loudest band in the world, I think.”
Grohl’s love of AC/DC goes back to the 1980 concert film Let There Be Rock, which he watched at age 11. “I didn’t know that rock and roll was sweat, and blood, and fking tears, and every ounce of energy you have,” he told the crowd that night. “I saw that movie when I was 11 years old, and I was like, ‘I wanna do that for the rest of my fking life.'”
Foo Fighters play the KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas on Dec. 12 in Los Angeles. A South American tour kicks off in February. All dates are on their website.
