The police report from the November DWI arrest of Bruce Springsteen offers up new details of the incident.
In the report obtained by TMZ, the arresting officer cites the following:
“While on foot patrol, I observed a male (Bruce F. Springsteen) consume a shot of Patron tequila and then get on his motorcycle and start the engine. I contacted Springsteen and informed him alcohol is prohibited at Sandy Hook. The Patron bottle that the shot was poured out of was completely empty (750ml). I asked Springsteen if he was leaving and he confirmed that he was going to drive out of the park. Springsteen claimed that he had two shots of tequila in the last 20 minutes. Springsteen smelt strongly of alcohol coming off his person and had glassy eyes. I ran Springsteen through standardized field sobriety tests. I observed four out of six clues on the horizontal gaze nystagmus test. Springsteen was visibly swaying back and forth while I observed his eyes. I observed five out of eight clues on the walk and turn test. Springsteen took 45 total steps during the walk and turn instead of the instructed 18. Springsteen refused to provide a sample on the preliminary breath test.”
The police report is significantly different from previous accounts of the incident reported by The Asbury Park Press and The New York Post. The Asbury Park Press reported a source close to the incident said Springsteen blew a .02, which is a quarter of the legal .08 limit in New Jersey.
Meanwhile, The New York Post reported a detailed account of the DWI arrest saying a source close to Springsteen said he was driving his motorcycle around when he was spotted by some fans in Gateway National Recreation Area in Sandy Hook, N.J. The fans asked Springsteen to pull over and take pictures, which he did. The source then said, “Bruce stopped, took the pictures, then a fan offered him a shot of liquor, which he took, while sitting on his bike, which was stationary. Park Police saw what happened and they immediately pulled Springsteen over as he drove away.”
Springsteen has yet to comment publically on the incident and is reportedly scheduled to appear in court in the coming weeks. In the aftermath of the news, however, Jeep pulled its Super Bowl ad featuring Springsteen from its YouTube channel and social media.
