Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon Set for Central Park ‘Homecoming Concert’

Bruce Springsteen and Paul Simon have been announced for a “homecoming concert” in Central Park later this summer as part of New York City’s celebration of reopening following lifted coronavirus pandemic restrictions.

Per The New York Times, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Springsteen, Simon and Jennifer Hudson as the first three acts booked for the massive concert, which is being organized by iconic music producer/executive Clive Davis.

Mayor de Blasio said during the press conference announcing this news, “This is going to be one of the greatest Central Park concerts in history.”

The New York Times noted, “At the Central Park show, Springsteen is expected to perform a duet with Patti Smith, according to a person briefed on the plans. The mayor did not mention Smith’s involvement in his announcement, and a representative of the singer declined to comment.”

As previously reported, the concert is part of a “Homecoming Week” in NYC, which will feature multiple celebrations in the city for residents and tourists alike. The Central Park concert will feature upwards of eight artists who will be part of a three-hour show that will be televised. Details about how to watch the concert and its exact date have yet to be confirmed.

When the concert was first announced, Mayor de Blasio said in a statement,”This concert is going to be a once in a lifetime opportunity. It’s going to be an amazing lineup. The whole week is going to be like nothing you’ve ever seen before in New York City.”

Davis added, “I can’t think of a better place than the Great Lawn of Central Park to be the place where you say that New York is reopening.”
