The surviving members of Soundgarden made a surprise appearance over the weekend during Brandi Carlile’s show at the Gorge Amphitheatre in Washington state.

Kim Thayil, Ben Shepherd and Matt Cameron performed “Black Hole Sun” and “Searching With My Good Eye Closed” with Carlile and her backing band on Saturday night (August 14.) Per Loudwire, “This was the first time the Soundgarden trio played together in their home state since the death of frontman Chris Cornell in 2017.”

This isn’t the first time the surviving members of Soundgarden and the Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriting collaborated; in 2020, Carlile released the Record Store Day title A Rooster Says, which featured Thayil, Shepherd and Cameron on studio recording covers of “Black Hole Sun” and “Searching With My Good Eye Closed.”
