Taylor Swift’s ‘Red (Taylor’s Version)’ Becomes Her Eighth Straight UK No.1 Album

Taylor Swift has secured her eighth consecutive No.1 album – and fifth in less than three years – in the UK, as the Official Charts Company confirms that Red (Taylor’s Version) has debuted at the top of today’s new chart.

The album scores 72,000 chart sales to push ABBA’s Voyage into runners-up spot after its arrival at the summit last week. Another recent No.1, Ed Sheeran’s Equals, falls 2-3. That opening tally for the new version of Red is the UK’s biggest total for a female artist this year, replacing the total for Olivia Rodrigo’s Sour.

From Swift’s album, “All Too Well (Ten Minute Version)” debuts on the singles chart at No.3, after topping the Official Trending Chart on Tuesday. Adele’s “Easy On Me” starts a fifth week atop the singles listing.

Red (Taylor’s Version) achieved nearly 57,000 physical and digital sales the fastest-selling female solo artist album of 2021 to date, in physical sales and downloads, overtaking Lana Del Rey’s Chemtrails Over The Country Club.

Swift thus draws level with Kylie Minogue among female solo artists with eight UK No.1 albums. That’s bettered only by Madonna, with 12. Swift is also the only female artist to have eight UK No.1 albums this century.

The original Red became her first UK No.1 album when it debuted at the top in November 2012, with 62,000 first-week sales. She then entered at No.1 with 1989 in 2014, Reputation (2017), Lover (2019), both Folklore and evermore in 2020 and, in April this year, Fearless (Taylor’s Version).

In other chart news, Little Mix’s greatest hits collection Between Us start at No. 4 and Rod Stewart’s The Tears Of Hercules at No.5, his 37th Top 10 album in the UK. Idles are new at No.6 with Crawler, as is Damon Albarn with The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows at No.7 and The Wanted’s Most Wanted: The Greatest Hits at No.8.
