Playboi Carti’s ‘Whole Lotta Red’ Is Now Certified RIAA Gold

Genre-defying rapper Playboi Carti’s critically acclaimed, sophomore album, WHOLE LOTTA RED, is now RIAA certified Gold, amassing over 500,000 units in sales.

Playboi Carti landed his first No.1 album on the Billboard 200 with the release of WHOLE LOTTA RED. The album, released on Christmas Day 2020, sold 100,000 units and received 160 Million global streams within its first week. In addition, WHOLE LOTTA RED trended No.1 upon its release on Twitter, and tracks from the album held three out of the top ten trending spots at YouTube including No.1 upon release.

WHOLE LOTTA RED features 24 tracks with appearances by rap superstars Future, Kid Cudi, and Kanye West. This is Playboi Carti’s second studio album, following Die Lit, which was released in 2018 and debuted at No.3 on the Billboard 200 chart. It has clocked over a staggering 1.6 Billion streams for its tracks to date.

Playboi Carti is currently on the last leg of his KING VAMP tour in support of his newly minted RIAA Gold album. This is Carti’s first headline tour since 2018, when he took several cities by storm in support of Die Lit.

Keeping most information about the project under wraps until its release, the only album track Carti had offered to fans prior to Whole Lotta Red was “Meh.” Released in April 2020, “Meh” was produced by JetsonMade, Neeko Baby, and Deskhop. It marked Carti’s first return to music as a lead artist since 2018. In the interim, Carti had appeared as a featured artist on collaborations with Tyler, The Creator, and Mustard.

Other featured producers on Whole Lotta Red include Pi’erre Bourne, Art Dealer, F1lthy, Juberlee, Richie Souf, and Wheezy.
