Lola Young Shares Vulnerable New Single ‘So Sorry’

Lola Young has shared her vulnerable new single “So Sorry,” which BBC Radio 1 named its Hottest Record today (January 24).

The BRITs Rising Star nominee and BBC Sound Of… 2022 contender drills into personal experiences on the track and translates them through quick-witted lyrics, pairing her words with slick strings and a driving rhythm section.

“‘So Sorry’ is a song I wrote about my toxic traits in a relationship,” Young said in a press release. “I got super vulnerable and honest on this track and I hadn’t yet written a song about how difficult I can be when I’m with someone. I feel like a lot of other people are going to be able to relate to the feeling of saying sorry far too much.”

The single follows a handful of powerful tracks from the hotly-tipped newcomer, including “FAKE,” which she performed on the Top Of The Pops New Year’s Eve Special, “Bad Tattoo,” “Ruin My Make Up,” and “Woman.” Young’s August 2021 EP After Midnight came accompanied by a short film of the same name, highlighting the rising star’s fervent creativity.

Confirming her as one to watch, she was also chosen to be involved with last year’s John Lewis Christmas advert – a now-coveted position in the pop world. The star gave her own take on Philip Oakey and Giorgio Moroder’s electro-pop classic “Together In Electric Dreams.”

“The lyric and soul within the song is something inspirational, fitting to the story within the ad,” Young said at the time of the cover’s release. “I feel so excited to be covering it and working with John Lewis.”
