Bruce Springsteen to Release Unheard Electric Version of ‘Nebraska’ Album

Springsteen fans can look forward to the release of *Nebraska ’82: Expanded Edition* on October 24. This new set features electric versions of Springsteen’s classic 1982 album, along with a fresh mix of the original tracks.

“I was surprised to learn that Electric Nebraska was a real thing,” Springsteen said. “We went back and found the tapes, and it was a shock. I think it’ll surprise fans too.” The electric versions were recorded at New York’s Power Station studios. Springsteen explained, “For most of the electric tracks, we cut the band down to three pieces. They were just howling. It’s a very primitive kind of rock ‘n’ roll.”

The original *Nebraska* album was created in a small room using a TEAC 144 4-track recorder. Springsteen recorded rough cuts in his Colts Neck rental. Although he later brought these songs to his band, the home recordings made it onto the final album. “There’s no way to fully understand why one recording connects and another doesn’t,” he reflected. Back in 1982, releasing bedroom recordings after the success of *The River* was a bold move. This shift even caught Hollywood’s attention, with Jeremy Allen White starring in *Deliver Me From Nowhere*, a film about those sessions.

The new *Nebraska* set includes a mix of the original album, raw cuts from the bedroom sessions, and fresh takes recorded at Red Bank’s Count Basie Theatre last spring. Fans can find more details about the album and its release date online.
