Paul McCartney is paying tribute to the late Bob Weir, the iconic guitarist of the Grateful Dead, who passed away on January 10 at the age of 78. McCartney took to social media to share his memories of Weir and his impact on music.
“Bob Weir was a great musician who inspired many people across generations,” McCartney wrote. He recalled the last time he saw Weir at the Sphere in Las Vegas, where they attended a Dead and Company concert. McCartney described Weir as very welcoming and mentioned a special moment when Weir invited him and his friends into his trailer during the show’s intermission.
McCartney also shared a story about how Weir once showed him his music setup in the back of his tour bus. They talked about collaborating, and McCartney even offered to play bass on one of Weir’s tracks. Unfortunately, that collaboration never happened, but McCartney expressed how magical it would have been to hear them together.
“His humor, friendship, and musicianship inspired me and will continue to inspire many,” McCartney added. He extended his condolences to Weir’s family during this difficult time, saying, “I know they will remain as strong as he would wish them to be.”
McCartney signed off with a heartfelt message: “God bless you Bob. See you down the road. Love, Paul.”
Fans have responded with an outpouring of love for Weir, with many expressing their appreciation for McCartney’s tribute. One fan said, “Rest easy Bobby. Would have loved to have heard that track,” referring to the lost collaboration. The music world continues to celebrate the legacy of Bob Weir and the joy he brought to so many.
