Scott Weiland’s first live album, Scott Weiland: Live, came out on Friday, Oct. 23, on CD, limited-edition red vinyl, and streaming services. Until now, the record had never been offered on CD or streaming. A visualizer for “Vasoline” went online with the release, built from previously unreleased footage.
The recordings come from Weiland’s 2009 tour for his second solo album, Happy In Galoshes. His estate found the unreleased tapes. The “Vasoline” footage was shot at a concert at the House of Blues in Anaheim, Calif.
Nine tracks make up the album, and the set mixes solo songs with material from his years in Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver.
The album first appeared on limited-edition blue vinyl for Record Store Day. It sold out. Fans asked for more, so it returned on red vinyl, while the CD and streaming versions are brand new.
The release landed four days before what would have been Weiland’s 59th birthday on Tuesday, Oct. 27.
Weiland fronted Stone Temple Pilots through the 1990s. He sang for Velvet Revolver from 2004 through 2008. In 2008 he went back to Stone Temple Pilots after a six-year break, but the band fired him in 2013 over erratic behavior.
He was found dead on his tour bus in December 2015, at age 48. A toxic mix of drugs and alcohol killed him while he was on the road with his solo band, The Wildabouts. A January 2016 Billboard report said that in his last months he had been fighting hepatitis C and mental illness, and had learned that both of his parents had cancer.
Fans can order Scott Weiland: Live on CD and red vinyl, or stream it now. It’s available on streaming platforms, and for information, visit the late performer’s official website.
