When Taylor Hawkins was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2021 with the Foo Fighters, he used part of his acceptance speech to shout out some artists he thought should be inducted, too.
The late drummer named three artists: George Michael, Jane’s Addiction and Soundgarden. The latter of those artists received a massive cheer from the crowd inside Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland.
Perhaps, the nominating committee took note of his remarks. When the 2023 Rock Hall nominees were announced yesterday (February 1), two of the three artists he named were among the 14 nominees: Michael and Soundgarden. Michael’s nomination is the late pop star’s first after being eligible for induction for 14 years. For Soundgarden, it’s their second nom with 12 years of eligibility. (The Seattle band was first nominated in 2020.) As for Jane’s Addiction, they’ve been eligible for 11 years and were only nominated once in 2017.
It appears fans are also big on Michael and Soundgarden being inducted into the Rock Hall. Both acts are currently in the top five of the Fan Vote to be included on the “Fans’ Ballot.” As with previous years, the public has the opportunity to voice their choice via the Fan Vote at RockHall.com through April 28. Fans are allowed to vote once per day during the Fan Vote period. Rock Hall Museum visitors also have the opportunity to vote in person in Cleveland. The “Fans’ Ballot” will comprise the top five artists from the fan vote. It will be counted among the other ballots filled out by various artists, historians, and music industry professionals.
