Live Nation has reached a deal to buy Royal Arena, Denmark’s top indoor venue, from current owners Realdania and Copenhagen City. This move is a big step for live entertainment in Denmark. The agreement will lead to upgrades for the 17,000-capacity arena and its surroundings, including better amenities for the local community, enhanced VIP experiences, and improved backstage facilities for artists and crews. Recent additions like The Vinyl Room, an exclusive lounge by Bang & Olufsen, are part of these plans.
Since opening in 2017, Royal Arena has hosted major acts like Metallica, MØ, Rod Stewart, Billie Eilish, Lukas Graham, Justin Timberlake, and Olivia Rodrigo. Designed by the award-winning firm 3XN, the arena is known for its sustainable features, using Cradle to Cradle certified materials and recyclable wooden fins. Live Nation plans to continue these green efforts with upgrades like rooftop solar panels, a full LED lighting conversion, and two 4.5 MW batteries to store renewable energy, saving over 800,000 kWh each year.
This acquisition comes as Denmark’s live music market is booming, contributing DKK 10.2 billion ($1.6 billion) to the economy and supporting thousands of jobs. Anders Kjørup, CEO of Royal Arena, said, “From the first concert in 2017 with Metallica, the Danes have loved this amazing building. Now, as both owner and operator, Live Nation is even more committed to the venue and the area, and we look forward to developing it for years to come.”
Nina Kovsted Helk, CEO of Realdania, added, “Our mission is to improve quality of life through the built environment. We’re proud to have helped create a world-class arena in Copenhagen. It was never our intention to be the long-term owner, and we’re pleased with this agreement.” The deal is set to close in 2026.
Royal Arena is located in Copenhagen’s Ørestad district and has welcomed millions of guests since its opening, making it a key spot for concerts, sports, and live entertainment.
