Aerosmith is celebrating their self-titled debut album, and they have every reason to. Released in January 1973, the album didn’t make a big splash right away but eventually climbed to No. 21 on the charts by 1976. It features the band’s famous hit, which also struggled initially but reached the top 10 after its re-release in December 1975.
On March 20, Aerosmith will release what they call the “definitive version” of their 1973 album. This reissue will come in several formats, including a limited-edition five-LP set called the Aerosmith (Legendary Collector’s Edition). This set includes the original album remastered on clear vinyl, a new 2024 mix on translucent red vinyl, and a live performance from 1973 at Paul’s Mall in Boston on black vinyl. It will also feature unreleased studio tracks and a special UV cloud-effect 12-inch vinyl.
What makes this reissue stand out is a hardcover book packed with never-before-seen photos and new liner notes featuring interviews with band members Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Tom Hamilton, Brad Whitford, and Joey Kramer. Other musicians, like Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready, Dolly Parton, Chris Robinson from The Black Crowes, and Slash from Guns N’ Roses, also contribute to the book.
Aerosmith has not only survived the classic rock era; they’ve reshaped it and pushed it forward. Emerging from the ’70s with a raw, loud sound, they blended blues and hard rock like no one else. Tyler’s powerful voice and Perry’s gritty guitar work have kept them relevant. They’ve reinvented themselves time and again while staying true to their roots, which is why they remain a legendary force in music. All versions of the reissue are available for preorder now.
