This Day in Top 40 History: March 6

March 6 is a significant date in Top 40 history, marked by pop stars touring with rock legends, free concerts in Cuba, and awards celebrating women in music.

In 1982, The Go-Go’s made history by reaching No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with their album *Beauty and the Beat*, the first all-girl band to achieve this milestone. Fast forward to 1995, Annie Lennox released her second album, *Medusa*, which peaked at No. 11 in the U.S. but hit No. 1 in the U.K., producing several Top 40 hits.

In 2012, Bruce Springsteen dropped his 17th studio album, *Wrecking Ball*, which topped both the Billboard 200 and Top Rock Albums charts. The album featured successful singles, including collaborations with Tom Morello. Two years later, Adam Lambert announced his tour with Queen, marking his shift from pop to rock.

In 2015, Madonna released her 13th album, *Rebel Heart*, which received mixed reviews but still made waves in the music scene.

Culturally, March 6 has seen its share of milestones. Tyler, the Creator was born in 1991 and later became a solo star with over 10 Top 40 hits. In 2006, Pearl Jam offered a free digital download of their single, which performed well on various Billboard charts.

In 2016, Diplo and Major Lazer held a free concert in Havana, Cuba, drawing 400,000 fans, marking a historic moment for U.S. artists in the country.

Most recently, in 2024, Kylie Minogue won the Billboard Women in Music Icon Award, with Katy Perry presenting in a stunning red dress. Karol G was named Woman of the Year, and Victoria Monet received the Rising Star Award.
