Andy Biersack takes it personally: grappling with the ‘futility of revenge’ on BVB’s new album

Andy Biersack of Black Veil Brides is diving deep into themes of revenge and reflection in the band’s new album, VINDICATE. He draws a parallel to Michael Jordan, saying that like the basketball legend, he has taken things personally throughout his life. The album kicks off with “Invocation to the Muse,” a spoken-word track where Biersack expresses his frustrations, saying, “f* your detractors, everybody sucks.”

As the album progresses, Biersack’s tone shifts. By the final song, “Eschaton,” he reflects on whether his focus on revenge was worth it. He explains that the last note of “Eschaton” connects back to the first note of “Invocation to the Muse,” creating a cycle. “If the record were to loop back around, you’d hear me giving that intense speech again,” he says.

Biersack admits he struggles to break this cycle in his own life. He often thinks he can win, but he reminds himself that life isn’t just about winning. “Life is never won,” he sings in “Eschaton.” VINDICATE is now available, and Black Veil Brides are currently on tour across the U.S.
