Vevo has put out Violet Grohl’s DSCVR performance of “Bug In The Cake,” a song from her debut album Be Sweet To Me, on Auroura Records and Republic Records. A second DSCVR clip, “Often Others,” lands in the next few days.
The video shows Violet Grohl at the microphone with her band behind her. Flashing pink, blue, and white lights wash over the stage. The song looks back at the strange, ghostly events that followed her move into the home of her late paternal grandmother, a “guiding force” in her life, according to XS Rock.
Violet Grohl put out Be Sweet To Me on May 29. Producer Justin Raisen, who has worked with Kim Gordon and Charli xcx, recorded it at his home studio in Los Angeles.
The album draws on alternative music from the late ’80s and early ’90s. Violet Grohl named Pixies, Soundgarden, Cocteau Twins, The Breeders, and PJ Harvey as influences. “I’ve listened to that stuff since I was a kid,” Violet Grohl said.
The album is only one part of a big year. Violet Grohl signed to Republic Records through her own label, Auroura Records. In June, she made her TV debut on NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Her first headline tour began with sold-out shows in Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. Festival sets at Reading and Leeds, Shaky Knees, and Riot Fest followed.
The tour continues this month on the West Coast. After that, Violet Grohl plays Corona Capital in Mexico City on Nov. 20.
