Rivers Cuomo, the frontman of Weezer, surprised fans over the Memorial Day weekend by sharing a collection of cover songs on his YouTube channel. Titled “randum cuverz,” the set includes solo demo recordings from 2018 and 2019.
The covers feature popular tracks like Guns N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child o’ Mine,” Dolly Parton’s “Jolene,” Radiohead’s “Creep,” Metallica’s “Enter Sandman,” Nirvana’s “Drain You” and “Lithium,” Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean,” and Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me).”
Weezer has previously released official covers of “Billie Jean” and “Enter Sandman” on their 2019 Teal Album and in 2021 for the Metallica Blacklist compilation. The Teal Album also includes their hit cover of Toto’s “Africa,” along with TLC’s “No Scrubs” and a-ha’s “Take on Me.”
In addition to the covers, Weezer recently released a new single called “Shine Again” in April, giving fans a taste of their upcoming album. The band is set to kick off a U.S. tour in September.
