Nintendo reveals details for its upcoming film adaptation, including casting, director, and distribution plans.
Nintendo has officially titled its upcoming live-action video game adaptation The Legend of Zelda and announced that its theatrical release date has shifted slightly to April 30, 2027. Directed by Wes Ball (The Maze Runner, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes), the film stars Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link. Their casting was originally revealed by Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto in July 2025.
The film is based on the action-adventure video game series that debuted on Japan’s Family Computer system in 1986. The movie is co-financed by Nintendo and Sony Pictures Entertainment, with Nintendo providing over 50% of the funding. Sony Pictures Entertainment will oversee the film’s worldwide theatrical distribution.
