Metallica released official videos of two songs from the opening night of its Life Burns Faster residency at Sphere in Las Vegas. The band posted “The Call of Ktulu” and “…And Justice for All.” Both clips come from the Oct. 1 show.
That night, the band played “…And Justice for All” live for the first time since 2014. It also pulled out “Now That We’re Dead” for the first time since 2021. The 16-song set opened with “Battery” and “Creeping Death” and closed with “Master of Puppets.“
The “Ktulu” video has a new orchestral intro. A giant Cthulhu climbs out of the sea on the screen behind the band. The “…And Justice for All” video shows a towering statue of the bound Lady Justice, known as Doris, hanging over the stage. By the end of the song, the statue is ripped apart.
James Hetfield dedicated “The Call of Ktulu” to Cliff Burton, the band’s bassist, who died in a bus crash in 1986. A photo of Burton hung above the stage. “We love you, Cliff,” Hetfield said.
Hetfield spoke to the crowd that night, too. “After 45 years, there is still much fun to be had,” he said, as per Yahoo. The lineup is Hetfield, drummer Lars Ulrich, guitarist Kirk Hammett, and bassist Robert Trujillo.
The residency runs for 24 shows, split into 12 “No Repeat Weekends.” Metallica plays on Thursdays and Saturdays, and every weekend brings a different setlist. The run lasts through March 13, 2027.
Sphere dates still to come are Oct. 22 and 24, Oct. 29 and 31, Nov. 5 and 7, Jan. 28 and 30, Feb. 4 and 6, Feb. 18 and 20, Feb. 25 and 27, March 4 and 6, and March 11 and 13. Metallica will also play Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, on Nov. 19 and 21.
A 12-date North American leg of the M72 World Tour is set for 2027. The first stop is May 8 at BC Place in Vancouver. Ticket info is available at Metallica.com.
