Corey Taylor Plays 2-Hour Solo Show With Covers at Las Vegas Venue

Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor played a two-hour solo concert on Sunday, Oct. 18, at Fremont Country Club in Las Vegas, Nevada. He opened the set with the theme from the Nickelodeon show SpongeBob SquarePants, according to Chaos Zine.

Then came the covers. Taylor worked through classic rock and heavy metal hits, such as KISS’s “Calling Dr. Love,” Ozzy Osbourne’s “Crazy Train,” Elton John’s “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting,” and more.

A fan filmed the whole show, and the Timothy Rusling channel on YouTube posted the videos, with one for each song.

Taylor’s second solo album, CMF2, came out in September 2023. It was his first record for BMG and the first on his own label, Decibel Cooper Recordings. Jay Ruston produced it. Taylor began recording in early January 2023 at The Hideout Recording Studio in Las Vegas, where his solo band joined him: bassist Eliot Lorango, drummer Dustin Robert, and guitarists Christian Martucci and Zach Throne.

Those sessions also produced covers and B-sides album, CMF2B… Or Not 2B. BMG released it on April 20, 2024, for Record Store Day, and it reached streaming services in May 2024.

Taylor’s 2020 album CMFT hit No. 6 on Billboard’s U.S. Top Rock Albums chart, according to Billboard. It held “Black Eyes Blue,” a song that climbed to No. 1 on Billboard’s mainstream rock chart.

Taylor was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on Dec. 8, 1973. His single mother raised him in Waterloo, Iowa. By age 15, he had lived in 25 states. He calls his grandmother his “strongest influence,” per Chaoszine. She took legal custody of him and bought his first musical gear.

In late September, Slipknot announced its biggest tour yet, the (Sic)est Stadium Tour. The 2027 global run kicks off July 3 at Wembley Stadium in London. The North American leg starts July 16 at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C., and ends Aug. 18 at Chase Field in Phoenix. Five South American shows come next, in September.

Bring Me the Horizon will open every North American date. Lamb of God, Motionless in White, Lorna Shore, Loathe, Acid Bath, Polyphia, Kublai Khan TX, and Vended will rotate in as guests. Marilyn Manson, Lorna Shore, and Hatebreed will play Wembley. Live Nation is producing the tour.

Last month, Slipknot put out the single “Arsenal.” It marks the recording debut of drummer Eloy Casagrande, who joined the band in early 2024. It is also the group’s first single since the band parted ways with turntablist Sid Wilson this summer.
