South-London-based rapper and rising drill star Ghostface600 has released a new single, “Paper Planes.” The new track follows the release of March offering “Shmokey,” which has amassed over half a million YouTube views to date.
The track received praise from the likes of BBC 1Xtra’s Kenny Allstar, as well as Apple Music 1’s Charlie Sloth, who added the track to his official “Hood Heat” playlist on Apple Music. Regarding “Shmokey,”
The Quietus had this to say: “Ghostface600 still has the raw energy of the streets and that is shown once again in his latest drop ‘Shmokey.’ The video shows him in his ends, posted on the block, while lyrically he lets us know what him and his boys are on and why they’re not like you. Mixing bars with the melodies he finds a perfect sweet spot over piano-laden production which drives home the message in his bars.”
Ghostface is quickly carving out his own lane in the massively popular UK rap scene. “Paper Planes” is another interesting wrinkle in his versatile arsenal, effortlessly combining the usual darkness of drill, with the melodic approach found at the center of the trap scene in the UK. The Gerssis-directed visual sees the newcomer flexing a new mask, that reveals only half his identity.
Ghostface attributes his Filipino and Jamaican roots for his tenacious work ethic and humble approach to the game. Rapping since the age of 14, Ghostface600 has taken inspiration from the likes of Gunna and Travis Scott, as well as rising US rappers J.I The Prince and Coach Da Ghost.
His rise traces back to 2019 with the release of his 600 Szn mixtape, followed quickly by his 2020 project, Just a Rapper Wid Melodies. With the release of “Paper Planes,” Ghostface600 is building on the exciting promise his early mixtapes offered. Stay tuned for more from him in 2021.
