George Strait will headline the grand opening of the Moody Center in Austin, Texas, on April 29, 2022. The event is titled Strait from Moody Center, presented by Bud Light, and is due to will feature performances by Strait’s fellow Texans Willie Nelson (& Family) and the Randy Rogers Band. Nelson will turn 89 on the day of the show.
Remarkably, it’ll be only the second time that Strait and Nelson have shared a stage. The first was less than three years ago, when in January 2019, they duetted at the all-star Willie: Life & Songs Of An American Outlaw show at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.
Two months after that, the country superstars were together on record, when Nelson appeared on the closing track of Strait’s Honky Tonk Time Machine album, “Sing One With Willie.”
Says Strait of next year’s concert: “I’m so glad I’ll get to ‘sing one with Willie’ and I can’t think of a better place to do it than Austin, Texas. Willie is an incredible musician and an even better person, so I know this will be a great night together along with our friends from Randy Rogers Band.”
Jeff Nickler, general manager of the 15,000-seat Moody Center, enthuses: “While planning our grand opening celebration, we knew we had an obligation to pay homage to Lone Star State. George, Willie and Randy are all Texas natives who have built legendary careers while having an unbelievable impact on the country music industry. It doesn’t get any bigger than this.” Exclusive VIP packages and tickets for the 2022 event go on sale on Friday, October 22 at 10am CT.
