Phil Collins says he’s ready for an “interesting” moment when he runs into Oasis at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Both Collins and the Gallagher brothers are set to be inducted on Nov. 14 in Los Angeles.
Collins told Mojo that inductees are invited to a lunch before the ceremony. “Which will be interesting, as I’m sure to bump into Oasis,” he said.
The tension goes back to 1994, when Noel Gallagher famously called Collins “the antichrist of music.” Over the years, the Gallaghers made other sharp comments about him. Collins recalled that his daughter, actress Lily Collins, once asked Liam Gallagher backstage at Live Earth in 2007, “Why do you hate my dad?” Collins said Liam replied, “I don’t hate anybody, love.”
Noel later said his issue might go back to a Genesis show in the 1980s. Collins thinks the song that upset him was probably “Mama,” because of the scary vocal and lighting. “So I think ‘Mama’ is why Noel called me the antichrist,” Collins said. He added he’s giving Noel the benefit of the doubt and doesn’t believe Noel literally means it.
The Hall of Fame ceremony will air on ABC and stream on Disney+ in December.
