Billie Eilish stars in the Sarah Polley-directed film as full cast details are confirmed.
Focus Features has announced that production has officially wrapped on its film adaptation of Sylvia Plath’s novel The Bell Jar. Directed by Oscar winner Sarah Polley from her own adapted screenplay, the movie marks her first project since winning the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay in 2023 for Women Talking. Musician Billie Eilish makes her feature film acting debut in the starring role of Esther Greenwood, with Carey Mulligan acting alongside her as Mrs. Greenwood.
The film’s newly confirmed ensemble cast features Danielle Deadwyler as Dr. Nolan, Dylan Hawco as Buddy Willard, Lili Taylor as Jay Cee, Ella Beatty as Joan, Maggie Kuntz as Doreen, Ike Barinholtz as Lenny, and Heated Rivalry breakout star Connor Storrie as Marco. First published in 1963, The Bell Jar is Plath’s only novel, a semi-autobiographical book chronicling a young woman’s descent into mental illness published one month before Plath died by suicide in the U.K.
