The guitarist chose not to record another project with the original lineup after the success of 2013’s “13.”
Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi revealed that he declined an offer from producer Andrew Watt in the early 2020s to record another studio album featuring the band’s original lineup of Iommi, Ozzy Osbourne, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward. Watt, who produced Osbourne’s solo albums Ordinary Man and Patient Number 9, approached Iommi with the idea. However, Iommi was hesitant, expressing reservations about Watt’s familiarity with working with the original members and stating that he felt another album was unnecessary following 2013’s 13.
The band’s 2013 release 13 featured Rage Against the Machine drummer Brad Wilk after a contractual dispute prevented Ward from participating, and it went on to top both the Billboard 200 and U.K. charts. Looking past Black Sabbath, Iommi is scheduled to release a new solo album, From The Dark, on October 23, marking his first solo record since 2005’s Fused.
