Weezer’s iconic 1994 debut album, known as the Blue Album, has been added to the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry. This album is one of 25 recordings selected for its cultural, historical, and aesthetic significance. The Library aims to preserve these audio treasures for future generations.
Acting Librarian of Congress Robert R. Newlen emphasized the importance of music in our lives and the mission to maintain a national playlist. The Blue Album is recognized as a classic of the alternative rock era, featuring hit singles like “Buddy Holly,” “Say It Ain’t So,” and “Undone – The Sweater Song.” It has also achieved five-times Platinum certification from the RIAA.
In 2024, Weezer celebrated the album’s 30th anniversary with a deluxe reissue and their Voyage to the Blue Planet tour.
