Bassist Darryl Jones has been rocking with the Rolling Stones for over 30 years. His first show with the band was on July 19, 1994, at RPM, a club in Toronto, during the Voodoo Lounge Tour. This fall, Jones is taking a big step in his career. He will perform solo shows at Copenhagen’s Epicurus jazz club from October 8 to November 1. While the full lineup is still a secret, these shows will mark his debut as a band leader.
Jones shared on Instagram, “After rehearsing in Toronto for several weeks, we played a warm-up show at a club called RPM. Who would’ve known that all these years later we’d still be rocking (and of course, rolling). Well, most of us. God rest Charlie Watts.” He recently posted photos from his time with the Stones, featuring moments with Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and the late Charlie Watts, who passed away in 2021.
Since joining the band in 1993, Jones has contributed to eight studio albums. Their latest release, Hackney Diamonds, is a departure from the norm as it’s the first album since 1994 that doesn’t feature his bass lines.
Jones has a rich musical history. In the 1980s and early 1990s, he played with legends like Miles Davis and Madonna. He has also shared the stage with Sting and recorded tracks for Eric Clapton and Patti LaBelle. His journey is captured in the 2022 documentary, Darryl Jones: In the Blood, which highlights his rise from Chicago’s South Side to global stages.
