Soundgarden’s final studio album with Chris Cornell on vocals is getting closer to completion. Drummer Matt Cameron shared that the band has passed the halfway mark in their work. The music dates back to 2015 when they first started recording these tracks. A recent agreement with Cornell’s estate has made this album possible, allowing the band to use his final recordings.
Cameron expressed how emotional the process has been. He said, “Hearing Chris’s voice on these powerful hard rock songs is the most empowering thing in the world for me.” He added that listening to Cornell’s voice while working on the music brings back memories and feelings, making it both gut-wrenching and empowering.
Guitarist Kim Thayil also talked about their commitment to finishing what they started. “Our objective and goal was always to complete that,” he said. This album marks the band’s first new music since their last release, King Animal, in 2012. Recording began in 2015 but was put on hold after Cornell’s tragic passing in May 2017.
In exciting news for fans, Soundgarden will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on November 8 in Los Angeles. The ceremony will be streamed live on Disney+, giving fans a chance to celebrate the band’s legacy. Stay tuned for more updates on the album and the induction ceremony!
