Nikki Sixx has called out older rock musicians who act like they’re still young. The 66-year-old bassist of Mötley Crüe expressed his dislike for artists who try to behave like they’re 25 when they’re actually 65. “Life changes, man,” he said. “It’s cool that it changes. I don’t think it’s cool for the fans when artists try to act younger than they are.”
Sixx, who turns 67 on December 11, believes Mötley Crüe ages well because they stay true to themselves. “We all age, we all change, and we have different interests. Mötley Crüe has embraced that and kept it real,” he explained.
His songwriting has also evolved over the years. Early on, his music was raw and wild, but now it carries more emotion. “You evolve as a person and as a lyricist. My writing has gone from the rawest to the most heartfelt as I’ve grown,” he shared.
The band isn’t rushing to create new music anymore. Sixx has a six-and-a-half-year-old daughter named Ruby, and he wants to spend more time with her. “We don’t have to be in a rush. I want to enjoy being a dad and then go out and play for the fans,” he said.
In a recent interview, Sixx reflected on turning 65 and found peace in his life. “I wake up and think, ‘I can’t think of a place I’d rather be.’ I’m grateful to still be creative, have a wonderful family, and good friends,” he said.
Mötley Crüe has announced the Return of the Carnival of Sins tour for 2026, celebrating their 45th anniversary with 33 shows. Fans can look out for ticket info soon!
