Billy F. Gibbons and the BFG Band are set to perform at the Music Box at the Borgata on Saturday, February 7. This concert is part of a tour that runs from California to Georgia through late February. Gibbons is best known as the frontman of ZZ Top and is considered one of the top blues-rock guitarists from Texas, alongside the late Stevie Ray Vaughan.
His music blends elements of blues, pop, R&B, country, gospel, and even West African sounds. Fans can expect to hear his signature growl on hits like “La Grange” and “Tush.” The BFG Band features Chris “Whipper” Layton on drums and Mike ‘The Drifter’ Flanigin on the Hammond B3 organ. Layton has played with Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble and the Arc Angels, while Flanigin has collaborated with Texas legends like Gibbons and Jimmie Vaughan.
Gibbons grew up in Houston and fell in love with rock & roll after seeing Elvis Presley on The Ed Sullivan Show. He received his first guitar, a Gibson Melody Maker, for Christmas in 1963. At 14, he formed his first band, the Saints. He later joined the Coachmen, which became the Moving Sidewalks, releasing an album called Flash in 1968. In 1969, he teamed up with bassist Dusty Hill and drummer Frank Beard to form ZZ Top, gaining a loyal following with five albums from 1970 to 1976.
The tour kicked off in Napa, California, on January 20 and includes stops in Denver, Columbus, New York City, and Atlanta. The final show will be on February 28 at Variety Playhouse in Atlanta. Tickets start at $86 and can be purchased online. The Music Box at The Borgata is located at One Borgata Way in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
