NOFX is set to release a feature-length documentary called *40 Years of F*in’ Up* in April. This film will include several unreleased songs that fans can only hear during theater showings. It tells the story of the punk rock band’s journey from teenage misfits to independent music legends over the past four decades.
During a visit to The Punk Rock Museum’s NOFX exhibition on January 16, founding member Fat Mike shared that the film is currently in post-production. He candidly remarked, “Most people wouldn’t be OK with releasing a film that shows footage of getting whipped in their dungeon, or their drug use for the past 20 years… I’m not like most people.”
The documentary is directed by James Buddy Day, who interviewed band members including guitarist Eric Melvin, lead guitarist Aaron “El Hefe” Abeyta, and drummer Erik Sandin. These members are also executive producers, along with Gary Ousdahl, Cisco Adler, and Jon Nadeau from Pyramid Productions.
Buddy Day expressed his excitement about the project, saying, “Working with Fat Mike, the band, and the entire NOFX crew has been like nothing I’ve ever experienced. This is the punkest band ever — and their story is exactly as insane as you’d expect: hilarious, painful, reckless, and deeply human.” He also mentioned that going through decades of footage revealed some unforgettable moments, and he believes the film’s raw honesty makes it a must-see.
Sneak peek screenings will happen in Austin, Texas, on March 15 and 16 at Brushy Street Commons, with showtimes at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Surprise guests will join for Q&A sessions. After that, the documentary will be shown in selected theaters worldwide starting in April. Tickets are already on sale, so don’t miss out!
