Dave Grohl, the lead singer of Foo Fighters, dedicated a performance of “My Hero” to the Baltimore hardcore band Turnstile during a show at the O2 Ritz in Manchester, England, on February 27. This tribute highlighted the East Coast hardcore roots shared by both bands. Grohl expressed his admiration for artists from Baltimore who are making waves in the music scene.
He shared his connection to the area, noting that Baltimore is just 45 minutes from Washington, D.C., where he began his journey in the hardcore punk scene. “Tonight I’m gonna dedicate [‘My Hero’] to a band who I think is great and who might be here tonight in the audience — I’m not sure,” Grohl said. He added, “Coming from an old school, hardcore punk rock background on the East Coast in Washington, D.C., our neighbors in Washington, D.C. were from a little town called Baltimore, Maryland.”
Turnstile has been gaining attention beyond the hardcore scene lately. They won two GRAMMY Awards earlier this year and received praise from music legends like Sir Elton John and Charli XCX. The band also visited England for the 2026 BRIT Awards, where they were nominated for International Group but lost to Geese.
Grohl’s dedication at the Manchester show was a surprise, and videos of the moment quickly spread on social media. Turnstile’s ability to connect with fans outside the traditional hardcore audience has contributed to their growing popularity.
Looking ahead, the Foo Fighters will be touring the US, Europe, New Zealand, and Australia in 2026 and 2027. Fans can find ticket information on their website.
