Philadelphia is gearing up for an exciting event as the Philadelphia School of Circus Arts (PSCA) launches its first-ever World Circus Festival from April 10 to April 19, 2026. This 10-day celebration coincides with World Circus Week and the city’s 52 Weeks of Firsts, marking the 1793 debut of America’s first circus in Philadelphia.
The festival will take place at Circus Campus, located at 6452 Greene Street in West Mt. Airy. It’s a great opportunity for families, community members, and circus enthusiasts of all ages to enjoy thrilling performances, hands-on workshops, and special events, many of which are free or low-cost.
The festivities kick off on Friday, April 10, with Test Flights, a free evening showcasing contemporary circus works-in-progress by both professional and student artists. Attendees will get a unique behind-the-scenes look at the creative process that combines theater, dance, music, and circus skills.
On Saturday, April 11, PSCA teams up with the Philadelphia Historic District 250th Committee for a free 52 Firstivals Celebration from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Visitors can enjoy aerial performances, family-friendly circus activities, storytelling, and free introductory workshops, all celebrating Philadelphia’s circus heritage.
Throughout the week, there will be community events like Juggling Club, after-school circus drop-ins, half-day youth programs, and special $5.20 Intro to Circus classes in honor of Philly 250.
The festival wraps up on Saturday, April 18, with the World Circus Day Spectacular Finale, featuring two pay-what-you-can performances. The family-friendly show at 5:00 p.m. is called From History to Gritty, while the 8:30 p.m. show, Nitty Gritty, is an adult-themed cabaret. Proceeds from both shows will support The Attic Youth Center, helping LGBTQ youth in Philadelphia. Don’t miss this chance to experience the magic of contemporary circus in Philly!
