On Sunday, May 3, thousands of runners gathered at Philadelphia’s Navy Yard for the 47th Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run. This 10-mile race stretches from Central High School to the Navy Yard, attracting around 40,000 participants. Whether chasing personal records or just enjoying the day, runners and volunteers created a strong sense of community.
Matthew Todd from Cherry Hill, New Jersey, shared his excitement, saying, “Amazing race and amazing people. Philly vibes all the way. Every human being has a story; sometimes it’s negative. Every time we run, I get to burn a page in that book and know that I am special and can do hard things.”
In the race, Joshua Izewski took home the men’s title with a record-breaking time of 45:08:33, marking his second consecutive win. Tessa Barrett won the women’s race, finishing in 52:24:34. In the non-binary category, Winter Parts set a new course record with a time of 52:04:39. Tony Nogueira dominated the men’s wheelchair division, finishing in 38:46:61.
For those interested in the full results and times, a complete list is available on the Broad Street Run website. This event not only showcased incredible athleticism but also brought people together in the spirit of running and community.
