Celebrate Memorial Day Weekend in the Wildwoods

Memorial Day weekend is just around the corner, and the Wildwoods are ready to celebrate! Here’s what you can look forward to this week:

The 10th Annual Flags of Liberty Ceremony takes place on Friday, May 22. Hosted by the Greater Wildwoods Elks Lodge #1896, this event honors fallen veterans by displaying casket flags along the boardwalk. A special highlight is the Sojourn 250 Flag, which is traveling across the U.S. and overseas to mark the nation’s 250th anniversary. This flag pays tribute to all who have served, including those who made the ultimate sacrifice. After the ceremony, the flag will be escorted to Washington, D.C., concluding its journey at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on July 4.

Also on Friday, the Unlocking of the Ocean Ceremony kicks off at 10 a.m. at the Wildwoods Convention Center turn-around. This event marks the official start of the summer season, with ceremonial keys presented to the mayors and beach patrol captains to “unlock” the beaches.

Don’t miss the 40th Annual Wildwoods International Kite Festival, running from Friday, May 22, to Monday, May 25. This is North America’s largest kite festival, featuring activities and exhibits at the Wildwoods Convention Center. On Friday night, catch the illuminated Night Kite Fly at 9 p.m. Saturday brings silent and loud auctions, while the weekend includes large inflatable kites, team flying, and family games. On Monday, check out the World Indoor Kite Exhibition inside the Convention Center.
