June is an exciting month for sports fans, featuring the Stanley Cup Finals, NBA Finals, MLB season action, the NBA Draft, the US Open, Wimbledon, Belmont Stakes, and various Grand Prix events. Over the years, June 14 has seen many memorable moments in sports history.

In 1870, the Cincinnati Red Stockings lost to the Brooklyn Atlantics, ending a remarkable 130-game winning streak. In 1880, Lloyd Hughes won the Belmont Stakes on Grenada with a time of 2:47. Fast forward to 1913, when Mary Browne claimed the women’s singles title at the U.S. National Championships.

In 1926, Henri Cochet and Suzanne Lenglen both triumphed at the French Championships, marking the start of Cochet’s four titles and Lenglen’s dominance in women’s tennis. Max Baer made headlines in 1934 by knocking out defending champion Primo Carnera to win the World Heavyweight title.

The year 1952 was significant, with Warren Spahn tying the National League record for strikeouts in a game and Jim Peters setting a world record in the men’s marathon. Julius Boros won the U.S. Open Golf Championship that same year.

In 1987, the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Boston Celtics to win the NBA Championship. The New York Rangers ended a 54-year championship drought by winning the Stanley Cup in 1994. The Chicago Bulls continued their dominance with three NBA titles in the 1990s, with Michael Jordan earning MVP honors multiple times.

June 14 has truly been a day filled with unforgettable sports achievements and legendary performances.
