Celebrate the World Cup and America 250 at Philadelphia Zoo

This summer, the Philadelphia Zoo is set to shine as the city celebrates the FIFA World Cup and America’s 250th anniversary. Whether you’re a local or visiting from afar, the Zoo promises an exciting mix of wildlife, culture, and family fun.

One highlight of the Zoo’s World Cup events is the chance to see animals linked to the competing nations. With 1,900 animals, including 60 species from countries playing at Lincoln Financial Field like Brazil, Ecuador, Ghana, France, and Croatia, there’s plenty to explore. You can spot amazing creatures like giant river otters, Galapagos tortoises, hippos, lions, and golden lion tamarins for a truly global experience.

For a closer look, consider a behind-the-scenes tour where you can meet animals like African pygmy hedgehogs and hippos. These tours also showcase the Zoo’s conservation efforts, such as helping boost the golden lion tamarin population from fewer than 200 in the 1970s to over 2,500 today.

There’s more to enjoy at the Zoo, too. The Philly Pherris Wheel, towering at 110 feet, offers stunning views of the Philadelphia skyline and the Schuylkill River. Families will love the new Carey Bear Country, a $25 million habitat for Andean and sloth bears, featuring upgraded spaces and a special Zoo360 trail.

Don’t miss the Zootopiaries: Nature’s Sculptures, which showcase living art throughout the Zoo. Plus, check out the new Destination Philadelphia gift shop for World Cup gear and unique souvenirs. With extended hours and easy parking for the nearby FIFA Fan Festival, the Philadelphia Zoo is a must-visit this summer. Make it part of your World Cup plans for an unforgettable experience!
