The Pretty Reckless dropped a bonus version of “About You” on Friday, Oct. 16, and it features Foo Fighters members Dave Grohl and Pat Smear. Grohl plays drums, guitar, and sings backing vocals on the new take. Smear adds guitar. The song first appeared on the band’s fifth studio album, Dear God, released through Fearless Records.
Taylor Momsen sings the verses, and Grohl joins her on the chorus. During the bridge, the two trade lines in a call-and-response.
“‘About You’ is one of my favorite songs on the record, so I wanted to do something special,” Momsen said, according to Louder. “I called Dave and Pat and asked them if they’d lend their magic to it. It was an amazing time in the studio making music, there’s nothing better than jamming with friends. I couldn’t be happier with the result.”
Dear God came out June 26. Momsen, guitarist Ben Phillips, and Jonathan Wyman produced it, while Momsen and Phillips wrote all 14 songs.
Dear God reached No. 6 in the U.K., No. 2 in Scotland, and No. 4 in Austria. It hit No. 7 in both Germany and Australia. Another track from the album, “When I Wake Up,” gave the band its ninth No. 1 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, according to the chart tracker. No other female-led act has done that more often in the chart’s history, Billboard reports.
The Pretty Reckless started in New York in 2009 and released its debut album, Light Me Up, in 2010. Smear founded The Germs. He toured with Nirvana during that band’s final years and has played with Grohl in Foo Fighters since the early days.
The band just wrapped a stretch as an opening act on the AC/DC Power Up Tour. It missed two shows because of scheduling conflicts, and Foo Fighters filled in. At the last show, held at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey,
Momsen also played with surviving members of Soundgarden at the Seattle Seahawks’ season opener in September. Later she joined Matt Cameron, Mike McCready, and Tom Morello at the Power to the People festival.
Next month, The Pretty Reckless will kick off a U.K. and European tour. It opens Nov. 9 in Madrid and ends Dec. 3 in Glasgow, Scotland. Stops include Barcelona, Milan, Prague, Berlin, Cologne, Amsterdam, Paris, Bristol, Wolverhampton, Manchester, and London. The band plays O2 Academy Brixton in London on Dec. 1.
In late January, the band will team up with Foo Fighters for two shows in India. One takes place Jan. 31, 2027, at Mahalaxmi Racecourse in Mumbai. Find the band’s tour dates on their official website.
