Chad Smith, the drummer for Red Hot Chili Peppers, made a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live, channeling his inner Will Ferrell. The fun kicked off when Smith took the stage right after the announcer introduced Ferrell as the host. He humorously impersonated the Anchorman star during the opening monologue until the real Ferrell showed up and asked him to leave.
The episode featured music legend Paul McCartney as the musical guest. McCartney joined Ferrell on stage and jokingly insisted that Smith was the real Ferrell, telling him to “Get back behind the drums where you belong.” Smith did just that, returning to his drum kit to perform with McCartney on “Band on the Run” and the new song “Days We Left Behind.”
Fans have often noted the strong resemblance between Smith and Ferrell, a fact they played up during a drum battle on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon back in 2014. It was a night full of laughs and great music!
