Jackson revealed four limited-edition Legend Series signature models. Each one recreates an instrument built for Randy Rhoads, Scott Ian, David Ellefson, or Marty Friedman. The company says the designs draw on vintage looks and copy the originals closely, according to its announcement.
Four models make up the lineup: the Randy Rhoads CD1, the Marty Friedman Kelly KE-1, the Scott Ian Rhoads RR22, and the David Ellefson CB V Concert Bass. Jackson says the set gives a new generation of players a chance to make these instruments their own.
The CD1 brings back a V-shape once sold only through the custom shop. It comes in Ivory with black pinstripes and gold hardware. Under the finish sit an alder body, a bound ebony fingerboard with 22 jumbo frets, two Seymour Duncan humbuckers, and a six-saddle tremolo.Â
The KE-1 copies Marty Friedman’s late-’90s signature model. It has an alder body, a three-piece maple neck-through design, a Seymour Duncan JB pickup, and a Kahler 7330 fixed bridge.Â
Next comes the RR22, which recreates the “NOT” Rhoads, a custom Jackson built in the early 1980s. It has neck-through construction and a top-mount Floyd Rose 1000 tremolo.Â
The CB V copies the first Jackson five-string, made for the 1990 tour. It carries EMG 40DC and CS pickups, a three-band EQ, a Jackson HiMass bridge, and Hipshot tuners.
Jackson has built instruments for more than 45 years. All four players used their original Jackson guitars and basses on recordings by Ozzy Osbourne, Anthrax, and Megadeth, the company said.
“Randy, Scott, David and Marty didn’t just play Jackson instruments – they helped define what Jackson became and pushed heavy music forward in the process,” said Jon Romanowski, vice president of product at Jackson.
