April is an exciting month for sports fans, featuring NBA and NHL playoffs, the start of MLB, The Masters, the NCAA Basketball title game, the NFL Draft, and Grand Prix events. April 16 has seen many memorable moments in sports history.

In 1900, Canadian Jim Caffrey won a race with a time of 2:39:44.4. Tim Ford became the youngest winner at 18 years old in 1906, finishing in 2:45:45. Clarence DeMar made history by winning the Boston Marathon multiple times, including back-to-back titles in 1923 and 1928.

In 1929, the New York Yankees became the first MLB team to wear uniform numbers, marking a new era in baseball. Babe Ruth made his National League debut in 1935, hitting a home run for the Boston Braves. The Boston Bruins clinched the first best-of-seven Stanley Cup Final series in 1939, defeating the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Bob Feller threw the only Opening Day no-hitter in MLB history in 1940. In 1978, Bob Forsch pitched a no-hitter against the Phillies. Bill Rodgers won his third title in the Boston Marathon in 1979.

Michael Jordan made headlines in 1987 by becoming the second NBA player to score 3,000 points in a season. In 2003, he played his final game, receiving a standing ovation.

April 16 has also seen great achievements like Desiree Linden winning the Boston Marathon in 2018, the first American woman to do so since 1985. Notable figures like Clarence DeMar, Bob Feller, and Michael Jordan have left their mark on this day in sports history.
