In 1889 John L. Sullivan beat Jake Kilrain in the 75th round. That same year William Renshaw won his seventh Wimbledon singles title. In 1898 Red Donahue pitched a no-hitter against the Boston Beaneaters. Laurence Doherty took his fourth Wimbledon in 1905. Rube Marquard’s 21-game win streak ended in 1912. Suzanne Lenglen won a fourth Wimbledon in 1922. Denny Shute claimed the British Open in 1933—his only Open win. The American League beat the National League 4-1 in the 1935 All-Star Game. Louise Brough won her third straight Wimbledon in 1950. Margaret Smith won her first of three Wimbledons in 1963. Joe Morgan got six hits in a game in 1965, a first for Houston. Jim Ray Hart drove in six runs in one inning in 1970. Jim Mason hit four doubles in a nine-inning game in 1974. Björn Borg won his third straight Wimbledon in 1978. In the 1980 All-Star Game the National League won 4-2 and Ken Griffey Jr. was MVP. Billy Martin notched his 1,000th managerial win in 1982. John McEnroe beat Jimmy Connors in 100-degree heat for his third Wimbledon in 1984. In 1990 the Milwaukee Brewers erased a 7-0 deficit with 13 runs in the fifth to win 20-7. West Germany won the 1990 World Cup final 1-0 over Argentina. Steffi Graf won her sixth Wimbledon in 1995. Venus Williams took her first Wimbledon in 2000 and added another Grand Slam by 2001. Brad Bryant won the US Senior Open in 2007; Roger Federer claimed his fifth straight Wimbledon that year. Paul Goydos shot a 59 in 2010, with 12 birdies and six pars. Na Yeon Choi won her first major in 2012. Germany beat Brazil 7-1 in the 2014 World Cup semi. The British Lions drew 15-15 with New Zealand in 2017. Sei Young Kim set the LPGA 72-hole scoring record in 2018. In 2021 San Diego Padres reliever Daniel Camarena had a notable outing.
