Last week, the main stage of Tomorrowland, the famous Belgian EDM festival, caught fire. In a surprising twist, Metallica stepped in to help. The band had some stage equipment stored in Austria and offered it to Tomorrowland organizers to rebuild the main stage.
Dutch DJ Martin Garrix, who was set to perform at the festival, expressed his gratitude to Metallica on social media. He shared a photo with drummer Lars Ulrich and wrote, “I can’t believe I’m actually typing this… but my set at Tomorrowland is still happening! Massive love and a big shoutout to the incredible Tomorrowland team for pulling off miracles — and to Metallica for coming through with the new stage parts.”
Garrix added, “I’m beyond excited to close the main stage tonight. This will hands down be the most unique Tomorrowland ever — and yes, I’ll be streaming it, too. Let’s make history. We unite.”
In light of this collaboration, fans might see some fun Metallica memes popping up. If they’re really good, there’s a chance the band could share them in their group chat. Lars Ulrich recently talked about the band’s enjoyment of memes. He mentioned a TikTok that combined Star Wars with Metallica’s song “One.”
“We love people’s creativity,” Ulrich said. “It’s amazing to see fans reinterpret our songs in different ways. Sometimes AI gets involved, and something fun comes out. It’s a lot to keep track of since it happens hundreds, if not thousands, of times a day. But there are some great ones that make it into our band-only text thread for us to enjoy.”
Stay tuned for more updates from Tomorrowland and Metallica!
